The Meskel Festival, which takes place in September, is a part of Ethiopian Orthodox tradition. Gorgeous umbrellas are carried by the priests and other people of high rank. 1974

A human tower and two umbrellas on one of the circus stamps issued by France in 2017. The contours of these circus umbrellas seem to resemble the contours of the big tent.

Working on a combine harvester in the sun makes an umbrella over the operator's seat a necessity. Czechoslovakia, 1953.

The operator shown in the second Czech stamp picturing a large combine harvester also has an umbrella. 1956 stamp for the 5-year agricultural plan till 1960.

Umbrellas protect the operators of two large combine harvesters pictured on the 1961 stamp of the USSR. It's probably very hot out on the vast fields of grain.

The Hungarian combine harvester of 1955 also has an umbrella over the operator. Part of a set of four stamps celebrating Hungary's liberation and showing different professions.

The Bulgarian combine harvester of 1969 looks as if it is loading into a truck much too small for the job. The umbrella is quite large. stamp part of the set celebrating the 25th anniversary of liberation.

Hungary's stamp of 2005 shows an early mail truck for bringing packages, or picking them up and a lady perhaps expecting one; commemorating 100 years of this service. American trucks of the time were quite similar.

A mailman for the Day of the Postage Stamp down at the river front among strollers in 1830; no stamps yet (and I don't know what river and bridge it is).
