The soap company Sieglin was the first to produce laundry soap as a powder, 1880. The text paraphrased reads "April weather is unpredictable and can make a mess of fine outfits, but with the help of Swan soap that's no problem!" The company was fused with Persil soaps, one of the biggest in Germany.

The leading figure in the advertisements of the Persil company used to be a lady dressed in pure white. This is a picture of an advertising plaque; not philatelic, but pretty.

I have a very hazy memory, of one of our Commanding Officers, nick named "Persil" (always whispered out of hearing distance) due to the fact he was always immaculately attired.

The squeegee profile of Diamond tires was particularly good for driving in the rain. A poster stamp and a poster illustrating the tire which at that time was quite different from what car tires look like nowadays.

A painting by Karsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) decorates the Japanese stamp for the 1964 International Letter Writing Week. Two figures are huddled under their white umbrellas in what may be bad weather. The large beautiful umbrellas made of delicate material probably wouldn't be practical in really bad weather. In the background Fuji.
