The painting "On a Summer Street" by the Chinese impressionist painter Chen Cheng-po (1895-1947), 2002. Cheng-po was not only an unusual painter, he also became involved in politics and was executed under false accusations for his attempts to make peace during the war between the two Chinas.

The throne of Thailand, formerly Siam, was in the news lately for the coronation of the new king. For the coronation of Rama VII it was pictured on a set of stamps in 1926. The royal umbrellas are many-tiered.

The second in the Thailand throne set of 1988 for King Rama IX. A slightly smaller throne, maybe for business meetings. But the umbrella is very impressive.

Hi Alexey, The "Rendevous" is a lovely addition; it's amazing how many Japanese works of art have been found for the thread. K.

The third throne and umbrella stamp in the 1988 set for Rama IX. The boat-like throne has a canopy as well. This is the Phuttan Kanchanasinghat Throne in the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall, the Grand Palace.

Another throne in the set for the Royals in 1988. This one is a beautiful gilded ottoman under an umbrella for the Queen. Sirikit is the mother of the newly crowned King Rama X.

The Pouring of the Libation ritual is shown on a souvenir sheet for the 50th anniversary of the Thai king's coronation (Rama IX). The huge tiered umbrella on the right, made of silk and gold, was seen in the reports on the coronation of the new king recently (photograph). Note the elephants carrying umbrellas in the coronation emblem. 1996

King Bhumibol was also honored on another set of stamps in 1996 for his golden jubilee. The large tiered umbrella behind the throne looks golden as well.

Anna Banana is the pseudonym of Anne Lee Long, a Canadian multi-talent who, among many other activities, promoted the work of other artists on artistamps, a kind of special cinderellas. Unfortunately I don't know who drew the umbrella.

A gentleman with a fine green umbrella at the Shiodome Station of Tokyo. Stamp in a set celebrating 150 years of the station; it looks quite different now, of course.

(Hi Rod, Cute drawings! K.)

Strolling in the Ueno Park of Tokyo. Stamp in the set commemorating 150 years of specific sights/sites in Japan. There are several museums, a lake and even a zoo associated with the park. The highlight of the year is cherry blossom time.
