In the Algerian stamp consumer rights are being protected, almost in rainbow colors; bar code and shopping basket. World Consumer Rights Day is on the 15th of March. In 2018 the topic is E-commerce, how to make the buying of products or services online safer.

A famous 'umbrella painting' of a well-to-do crowd relaxing at the banks of the Isle de la Grand Jatte in Paris on a Sunday afternoon. Painting by George Seurat (1859-1891) which measures about 2 X 3 meters and can be seen at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Menner air balloon, admired by a crowd of onlookers, was featured in the Hungarian stamp of 1983 for 200 years of manned flight; note plane in the distance and dog hanging from what looks like a parachute!

The beach at la Baule, France, at the mouth of the Loire River, is even more crowed nowadays than it was in 1967.

In Australia even a Wombat is sunwise and carries an umbrella while watering his waratah flower. W is for Wombat and Western Australia (written on his umbrella and in the small brown map at the upper right) but W is also for wattle (the yellow flower), Waltzing Matilda Wine (in the bottle) and water hose as well as for the WACA cricket ground in Perth. Part of the Fair Dinkum Aussie Alphabet series - great fun.

Even coins were issued!

The Aussie Alphabet series was begun in 2016 and is continuing. The illustrator and designer Gavin Ryan included an umbrella in the 'U' drawing, here on a maxicard.

If you look carefully at the Australian 5˝d 1951 50th Anniversary of Federation stamp, you can see that the Duchess of Cornwall and York (later Queen Mary) is holding a furled umbrella.

The Turkish part of Cyprus does issue stamps (and has been since the early 70s) but the country is not officially recognized and not a member of the UPU. Does anyone know more about the status/legality of their stamps? Can one send a post card from one of those large beach resorts on the north coast? The denomination is in Turkish Lira.

Hi Rod, Glad you liked them Aussies! K.

Lutz Dille (1922-2008) said of his work: "In my photography I like to emphasize the obvious, the expressions, the gestures which I think typify the person or persons I am photographing." The Lady on the Bench in Toronto is on one stamp in a set of five featuring his photography, 2016. And just for another one, a photo of a crowd in the rain.

The UN Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit, or Rio Conference, was a major UN conference held in June 1992. The issues addressed included: climate change, biodiversity, fighting poverty and cleaning up the environment. Somehow the artwork by Peter Max doesn't seem to have much relevance to these serious topics.
