Any idea where/when to locate this issue? Trying to find it both in Scott and Michel, but without success.

Hi filipo,

This stamp was issued by Admiral Kolckak's government in Omsk in Siberia in 1919 during the Russian Civil War.

Thank you for the fast reply, Nigelc!!

Thanks again, Rod, for all your help. Btw. one offtopic question - are you familiar with the name of Frank McNamara, VC, an ANZAC figure from the WW1?

The three stamps in the second row in Rod's first post are from the Far Eastern Republic at the other end of Siberia from Omsk.

This state had a very different political stance from Kolchak and joined the Russian Federation soon after Kolchak's government collaped.

The stamps have the state's Russian initials (DVR) in tiny script on the arms in the centre but they are hard to make out.

Here are the state's arms in colour:

Thank you, NigelC... a very nice coat of arms.

@ rod - yes, I have a box of his personal items... a hanwritten diary which used in late 1940, while he was in GB, regarding ANZAC pilots who arrived in that time... a lot of his remarks about Battle of Britain etc. Just partly filled, but very nice... with handrawn maps. Also his correspondance, a lot of postal history etc. I will post the photos if you would like to see.

I bought the box in GB a couple of years ago (I like old handwritten diaries), from his estate, but didn't have a time to go through it. Also, one notebooks is completely written in shorthand... however, doesn't seems to be interesting.

Thank you for the info, Rod. Here is the list of the items I have found in the box... below is also a group of photos. I have found that is very hard to contact any public institution anywhere in the world (my apologies if Australia is different), but, if you would like to contact them and provide those info, please, feel free to do that in my name!

Also, these items are not connected to the WWI when he got the Victoria Cross, so I suppose that they are not interesting to the War Memorial. Maybe his letters and diary from the WWII can be interesting for the WWII researchers, but McNamara is mostly interesting as a WWI figure, and this items are not connecte to the period 1914-1918.

btw. you can download for free a book about him (out of print)

List of the items I have:

1940 AVRO diary with personalised leather cover - entries from September 2 - 27th. Some interesting entries including a hand drawn map of SE England and Channel.

Full and original CV covering years 1910 - 1959

Letter from NW Polytechnic 1960

Exam papers from University of Melbourne 1931

Programme from RAF Anniversary Concert 1959

Empire Service Club rules 1935

Christmas card from The Lord Mayor of Melbourne 1933

Commonwealth of Australia Dept of Defence letter 1920 offering job of Flying Officer in AAC

Personal letter 3rd April 1945

2x introduction letters to The Junior Naval & Military Club (G/Captain FH McNamara)

2x personal letters 1945

6x personal photographs, including one of his father in law (possibly). Photographer P. Dittrich of Cairo.

RAAF Weekly Orders 1946

Wedding invitation 1938

Wedding invitation 1949

Invitation Officers' Mess RAAF Laverton 1936

Air Council Luncheon notes 1938

Letter from Air Commodore Whitney W. Straight 17th April 1945

Memo from British Forces Aden Command 11th March 1945

British Zone Review June 28 1947

A4 size book of notes (in shorthand) 1933

A4 timetable of the Victoria Cross handover ceremony to RAF museum 22 October 1991
Handwritten list of retirement entitlements on back of brown envelope. This is a very interesting item as McNamara was irritated at the amount of severance he received from the Australian Government. Indeed it was the reason his VC was not returned to Australia after his death

Wow!
thank you filipo,
I shall contact and ask for advice, on your behalf.
I'll forward the link to your post.

Government cogs grind slowly, so do not expect a reply for a few weeks or so.

Thank you for being so benevolent with your information. Bravo!

Rod

Thanks Rod. My opinion is that you don't need to bother yourself with these... I am pretty sure that these are not kind of items in the Government or Militaria historians are interesting in. Too many non-specific papers... they are more interested in awards, ribbons, uniforms, helmets, weapons etc. too much papers is just not their stuff.

Btw. here is a nice FDC with McNamara... don't have it, just copied it from ebay... shame that they didn't place a better resolution picture...

You may be right filipo,
the thing with history, one needs long distance goggles,
we of the philatelic bent, may look back 200 years, but imagination really gets sweeter when it's 500 or more.

Once lost, information is gone forever.

We shall see what they have to say.
