I'm wondering how other world stamp collectors are organizing their collections. I started off with a box of world stamps, then bought some more, now my collection is growing considerably, and the issue of how to organize 10,000+ is becoming an issue. I got show boxes with envelopes and need to expand. What are people out there doing?

Collecting, for me, is about my personal joy and the ability to display and get to my favorites quickly. Space stamps have always been my favorite so I made an album of all space, any country. Then, I use a scrapbook format for my favorite countries. Theyre displayed individually with facts/explanations of outliers and oddities. Hope this help gives you a direction.

jbu, on this forum several folks collect world wide and have talked about their collections. Maybe you should use the "search" function on this page to find some of those posts

If you're arranging a world collection alphabetically and then in issue order for each country, leave plenty of room when you first start off. A flexible storage system (hagners, vario sheets etc.) rather than stockbooks will be the way to go in my opinion.

One stamp at a time... What you use for storage, how you classify/organize stamps etc. are just matters of personal preference. But there is no quick and easy approach to it all. The more stamps, the more time (and consideration) it will require (speaking with experience of 110,000+ stamps in my world collection)

Another option could be to pick up some used Scott International albums on ebay.

I would go with Scott International or Minkus Supreme Global any day over Steiner pages. I really hate Steiner pages.

I started with a simple album from Harris when I was 12 (many years ago). My dad bought me 6 volumes from Scott International....that did the trick for some time but realized during the past years that a lot of varieties and other stamps (depending on Country) are not there so I started making my Albums with software I bought and now I have control over what is in the Albums. I started 1 for Canada (up to the 1940s), 1 for New Brunswick, my Province. When I do France, it will be in a separate Album. Also have other Scott Junior Albums bought in the 60s, full of stamps not inventoried yet but I will get there.
I would recommend you do inventory of each stamp and location as with time, you will not know where they are - If serious, you should be able to do Reports of each Country and the World. As Peter said, search SCF.....it will help you.

Floortrader, your wife would have been a whole lot happier if you had stuck with that original album.
