What was the worlds first postage stamp with a bird on it?

It's possibly the "Basel Dove", issued in July 1845. It was the worlds first tri-color stamp and featured an embossed white dove carrying a letter in its beak. In use until 1854, 41000 stamps had been issued and as you might expect there are many forgeries.

Posting number 50....one of my favorite birds.. jewels of the forest floor, received on cover today...
Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha), breeds in north-east Asia, a spends the winters mainly on the island of Borneo, eats worms, spiders, insects, slugs, and snails.
Note the veiled stinkhorn fungus which will be attracting flies for the birds.

Some overprinted birds (well, it's actually the stamp that's overprinted, but you know what I mean) and unoverprinted, all from places starting with B.

The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja) is the largest and most powerful raptor found in the Americas, and among the largest extant species of eagles in the world. Rare throughout its range, the Harpy Eagle is found from Mexico, through Central America and into South America to Argentina. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Harpy Eagle, combined engraved (vignette) and photogravure (frame and lettering), and issued by Brazil on May 28, 1968 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the National Museum, Scott No. 1084. Note the misspelling of the bird's Latin species name ("harpya") on the stamp.
