The Pied Kingfisher (Ceryle rudis), a water kingfisher found widely distributed across Africa and Asia, printed by photogravure, and first issued by Japan on January 13, 1994, Scott No. 2161.

Here are images of a couple of stamps depicting birds, designed by Ingalill Axelsson, combined engraved by Martin Mörck and lithogravure, and issued by Sweden on August 22, 1989 in a booklet containing six stamps publicizing Swedish polar research, Scott Nos. 1752 & 1754, Facit Nos. 1579 & 1581.

Emperor Penguins (Aptenodytes forsteri) and the ship Antarctic used by Finnish and Swedish geologist, geographer, and polar explorer Nils Otto Gustaf Nordenskjöld (1869-1928) during his South Pole expedition in 1901-03.


Brown Skua (Stercorarius antarcticus), geodimeter and surveyor. Note that Scott (2008) misidentifies this bird as an albatross.
