The birds flying off into the sunset in the San Marino stamp of May 16, 1985, represent migrants leaving their homeland. The building in the cancel overlooks the city (City Hall). The coat of arms of San Marino is also in the cancel. The 18th of December is the UN International Day of Migrants.

The snow bunting Plectrophenax nivalis is a small passerine bird which lives in northern regions and is at home all year in Iceland. Perhaps these Christmas birds are snow buntings. (Photo by M. König)

The small European Robin Erithacus rubecula is often seen on Christmas stamps (See earlier posts of 4/28 and 29/2011 here). Robin redbreast is an important figure in numerous legends and stories about Christ.

The Eurasian Bullfinch Pyrrhula pyrrhula is also a Christmas bird in many countries. The bright red front of the male is larger than that of the robin and can be seen from afar.
