On January 28, 1999 Spain issued a set of three endangered fauna stamps. The 70 peseta stamp (Sc #2979) of this set depicts a western osprey (Pandion haliaetus). 1.5 million of these 70 p stamps were issued. From wikipedia, It has a worldwide distribution and is found in temperate and tropical regions of all continents except Antarctica...The osprey is piscivorous, with fish making up 99% of its diet."  |

Canada issued its 4th series of "Birds of Canada" stamps on February 24, 1999. The stamps were issued in self-adhesive booklet of 12 format (shown here, Sc #s 1774-7) and in water-activated panes of 20. northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis) red-winged blackbird (Agelaius phoeniceus) American goldfinch (Carduelis tristis) sandhill crane (Antigone canadensis)   |

Here is Canada's fifth series of "Birds of Canada" stamps. Stamps were issued as self-adhesive booklets and water-activated, se-tenant panes of 20 stamps. Both formats were issued on March 1, 2000. The self-adhesive booklets contain two panes of six stamps each. These stamps, shown here, are Sc.#s 1843-6. On August 8, 1995 Guatemala issued a set of seven airmail "Tourism" stamps. The 3 quetzal value (Sc #C855) from this set depicts a pair of scarlet macaws (Ara Macao). From wikipedia, "Range extends from south-eastern Mexico to the Peruvian Amazon, Ecuador, Colombia, Bolivia, Venezuela and Brazil in lowlands of 500 m (1640 ft) up to 1000 m (3281 ft.)."  |

This set of four stamps (Facit #s 811-4) was issued by Iceland on December 3, 1992 in cooperation with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Stamps depict different views of the gyrfalcon, Iceland's national bird. From wikipedia, "The gyrfalcon (Falco rusticolus), the largest of the falcon species, is a bird of prey. It breeds on Arctic coasts and tundra, and the islands of northern North America and the Eurosiberian region. Like other falcons, it shows sexual dimorphism, with the female much larger than the male."   |
