A favorite philatelic 'favor' cover of mine from Cayenne, French Guiana to New York, postmarked 1/12/48, and featuring Scott #C18-C20. The first two stamps of this series were designed and engraved by
Pierre Gandon, and the third designed by Gandon but engraved by
Gabriel-Antoine Barlangue.
#C18 features a Black Caracara (
Daptrius ater) and #C20 features four different toucan species... Black-necked Aracari (
Pteroglossus aracari), Yellow-throated Toucan (
Ramphastos ambiguus), Black-billed Mountain Toucan (
Andigena nigrirostris) and Channel-billed Toucan (
Ramphastos vitellinus).
(The cover is marked "PREMIER JOUR", or first day of issue, but the first day of issue for this set is supposed to be 6/2/47 according to Scott and Dallay. That being said, I've known Scott to be wrong about issue dates on many occasions... could both catalogs be wrong?)
