No. The contract for printing this card was not awarded until late Feb 1873. |

Possible 1879. Postal card rate was still 1-cent; there was that 1-cent Liberty issue, both watermarked and unwatermarked in 1875. That would make this a late use.
Earliest reported use is May 12, 1873. |

Since we have a 2 and 9 in Dec 29, I would say that the last number in 187"2" looks more similar to 2 than the 9. I think it is just a mistaken date. |

A large majority of year-date mistakes tend to happen on or around January 1st. Usually it happens in January, when people are getting adjusted to a new year. They use year N-1. Here, its a bit different, as its in December, and its still year N-1. Interesting. |

The writing on the front to me looks to be slightly different than the writing on the back of the card. For example, the letters 'ss' in 'Miss' seem different than all the 's' on the back. Same for 't'. |

Yes but the M in Mary on the front and the M on My on the back are exact. |

Looking at the tops of the two numbers 29, they are written differently. The last number of the year looks like it was written the same as the 9 and finished as a 2. |
