Scott National Goofs And Problems

I got a 2014 Purple Heart stamp and tried to put it into the album. I looked and looked in the 2014 Album section. It wasn't there. Finally I found it in the 2015 section, nestled among 2015 stamps, looking really lonely.
Scott has no regard for its users.

We had a discussion like this earlier where Scott does not spend that much effort trying to keep some common designs together on the same page.

The Purple Heart series comes in different denomination and years. Some collectors would prefer to see all on one page but that is not how it works.

My 2018 Scott catalogue shows October 11 of 2014 as the issuance date for 4704b. That said, my memory tells me that this stamp was not released until very early 2015 ... so I think Peter is correct. And my White Ace supplement agrees with the OP's Scott supplement. The "2014" Purple Heart appears in the 2015 section.
The question arises as to why Scott thinks October 11, 2014 is the date. Were FDC's printed with this specific date even though the stamps were not yet available at your local PO?
This also broaches an interesting subject for a special album page (probably pages by now). The USPS has been regularly printing dates on their stamps since the mid 90s. In several instances, the date on the stamp does not reflect the actual date that the stamp was issued. Usually one of two scenarios describes what happened. In the first, a stamp is printed in one year (probably late in the year) but is not released until the following year (probably early in the year). In the second, a stamp is reprinted and, for some reason, the date is not changed (think American Clock, both pane & coil). I think it might be fun to create an album page for these "philatelic anachronisms".
Added: Suddenly I think that there were two purple hearts with a 2014 date on them. 4704b was the first ... another Scott number was the second. I think.
Yep, Scott 5035 was issued in October of 2015. Will have to shake out the cobwebs & try to recall the differences.
Added: The obvious difference is the USPS microprint that appears to the left of the ribbon on 5035. Since the purple heart shown in the original post does not have this microprint, it must be 4704b (the reprint of the 2012 purple heart with date changed). So the OP was probably right in looking for the stamp in the 2014 section. Presumably it wasn't there because Scott fails to include minor varieties in their supplements. As for White Ace, sometimes they do but mostly they don't.

angore, I agree with your "pet peeve". Another problem I have with Scott is "when does a color variety merit a minor catalogue number?"
As an example, consider Scott 508 ... color is olive bister; olive green is also listed, no separate number. Scott K8 is the Shanghai overprint on olive bister ... K8a is the same on olive green. Why does the overprint on olive green merit a separate catalogue number when the same stamp without overprint does not?
