Hello, let me first say that I am new to this forum. I recently inherited a collection from my Dad who was the owner of Liberty Stamps in Minneapolis. There are many stamps that have been labeled as "higher value" but before listing these on ebay I'd like to make sure I'm describing these accurately. I recently listed what was labeled in the album as a #10 but was informed by a kind expert it was actually an #11.

After reading many posts here I thought this forum would be a good place to get expert opinions, particularly on the older stamps before auctioning.

This stamp was listed as a #152, MH with a CV of $1100. Is there anything you see about this stamp that would indicate otherwise?

Any and all feedback is welcome.

The missing perf on upper left corner, and the poor centering would definitely affect the price. Scott's has a section that gives some valuation for VF, F-VF, Good, etc. You may want to see if it covers this stamp.

Otherwise, a nice example that someone would want in their collection.

The stamp should have a certificate to be sold as a 152 as opposed to a 163 or a 189. While the color looks OK, an expert would have to look closely at the paper, gum, color, printing quality and compare with reference examples to determine the Scott number. Condition will also be a major factor.

There are many problems with this stamp. Centering is very bad
Perforations are bad. ? Regum. Hinge remnant, ? Thin

Its value at auction would be 100-200$ ??? But only if sound.

There are many sound copies at Siegel Auctions with better centering that have sold for 300$-500.

If you list it on ebay for 1100$ you will waste your time . Go to Siegel auction site and do Power search to get idea of market price for stamp with this type of centering.

Thanks for your responses. I've listed all items as no reserve auctions so I wouldn't be listing at or near CV. I wasn't aware this was so close to #163 and #189 so this is good new information. Is there any way to distinguish between these 3 issues, or at least eliminate 1?

I looked at the LibertyStamps website which appears to still be online, even if not active. It shows this particular stamp listed as cat value $3500 and offered for $1499.95. Those numbers are both very high for this stamp.

Scott 152 and 163 are on hard paper. Scot 189 is on soft paper. Scott 163, except for ribbed paper, will have missing fine lines in the triangle borders and relatively strong inking at the bottom vertex of the top left triangle. Some call this a "secret" mark. Scott 152 is a bright orange, but paler than the deeper 163 shade. A reference example would be needed to confirm the color. Also a detailed scan at 600 DPI or better is needed, as indicated in the ebay Stamp Selling Guidelines below:
