I always dreamed of having a collection of stamps dedicated to cold weapons - offensive and defensive. My first contribution: the state sword and shield of the Russian Empire. The sword blade is of Polish origin (or trophy or purchase) in the early 17th century. The shield is made of wood and leather and decorated with gold plates with precious stones.

The only Polish sword on a stamp that comes to mind is the "Szczerbiec" or Polish Coronation Sword first used during the coronation of Wladyslaw Lokietek (the Short) in 1320. Part of a set of 8 stamps featuring Polish antiquities issued in 1973 Fischer 2090 |

In Furth am Wald, close to the Czechoslovakian border, the great green dragon is subdued in a wonderful and colorful pageant. Here the sword is used to overcome evil forces. (Note both DM and € denomination in 2001) (The dragon may also be living over on the dragon thread, but the subject here is the sword, OK? Alexey, you are still building bridges aren't you?) |

another stamp from a series of state symbols: the helmet of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich. This type of helmet came to Europe from Turkey, and this sample is of Arab origin. The helmet was redesigned and decorated in Moscow by master Nikita Davydov (Hello, Chris. Bridges are a profession, and weapons are a hobby.) |

Miny sheet of three stamps is dedicated to the Orenburg, Yenisei and Ussuri Cossack troops. The traditional uniforms of the 19th century are shown along with the Cossack weapon: sabers, shashka (saber without a guard), peaks and flanged mace (as symbol of military power) |

Hello Alexey, This is a scan of postal stationery/post card. It evidently has some connection to a philatelic exhibit or meeting in 1983. Please add information and if you do not have it, I'd be glad to send it to you. |

Traditional Caucasian dagger Kama: it is worn with national costume by all the peoples of the Caucasus (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, and all the peoples of the North Caucasus). This dagger also entered the parade uniform of the Cossacks (World War I: General Brusilov in a ceremonial Cossack uniform with such a dagger) |
