John, thanks for you efforts in showing us your stamps....a lot of scanning !!! Why do you keep showing your "dups" (duplicates)- other members have talked t you about that ? Hope you understand the message ! Keep up the good scanning, but "no dups" !! René |

Hi @Renden Okay, I have to explain why that is so. As you know, I'm a beginner and I do not have enough knowledge about philatelism. I have arranged postal stamps in albums, as they are now. I want to show all my postage stamps. Why? Because in the future I need to sort everything (when I have time to go). To me, as a beginner is very difficult to decide which postage stamp I need to put (to keep it) in the album. Which is the best of all the duplicates I have. So when I'm already putting pictures into a topic, I want to show everything. One day I plan to ask for advice here on the forum. I will probably ask the question, which stamp of all the duplicates, I should preserve in my particular album. For now I do not have enough knowledge to choose between 30-50 duplicates of the best postal stamp. There are a lot of elements that determine which quality is best (position of trademark, perforation, color, preservation etc). I hope, that no one bothered duplicates on my images? Image, which contains 5 or 10 stamps is just one image. I hope you understand me now (and I hope that others will understand me)? |

John I understand what you are doing but to put all these "dups" (of not old stamps) on the Forum takes a lot of time for us to look at. You should concentrate on learning how to "grade" the quality of your stamps, pick 1 or 2 but not 50. Even as a beginner, age 12, I did that. Read the books re: fine - good - very fine - mint - hinged - never hinged etc. It does not take much time to read the beginning off a Catalogue which explains these terms. Good luck !! René |

Do you know, there's a country called "Switzerland" (in English) and "Helvetia" (in Latin)? And, again, I suggest you to use Stampworld, to bring some order to the mess, that you keep calling "stamp collection"... |

Confoederatio Helvetica (Helvetic Confederation) is the nation's full Latin name. That name is derived from the Celtic Helvetii people who first entered the area around 100 B.C. Helvetia was also the Roman name for the region that is now western Switzerland.
You were right, Cursus. It is "latin". I note you have no tolerance for John's collection(s)....please give the guy a break - If he does not understand my post (prior to yours) will stop trying to help also- Thanks |

Now John, re-read what I wrote as it is not negative towards you and your collection(s). You can stop putting images if you want as I have no control over that. If I take time to write to you on this Forum, it is to "help", not stop you !! I will give you an example: Look at Rod222's pages of multiple Countries....they are beautiful and educational and you can do the same without being an expert !! No "dups" unless you ask members an opinion on 1 old stamp which you have difficulty with. The great majority of your stamps are not complicated and easy to sort out. Good luck - René |

Here is a suggestion John, buy a copy of Steiner pages (on CD) and start putting your stamps on them. That way you know what you have and need. I have done that with my Swiss collection and for the most part like the way it looks. Be aware of the grilled gum varieties they can be tricky to identify. Good luck! Wolf-==- |

I fully agree with Renden (who, by the way, knows pretty well Swiss history!). We do not mean, John, that you stop showing your stamps here. But you should learn some things on stamp collecting. It would help you to fully enjoy the hobby. Croatia, is a developed country (I used to have some friends, there!). There should be stamp clubs and markets in Zagreb, Dubrovnik, Split, Ryjeka... I'm sure that you can find a book on philately written on Croatian, or on another Language that you might fully understand. And feel free to put forward as many qüestions as you have. All of us will be very pleased to help you, as Renden has put very clearly. |

Thank you very much Renden for your nice words. But I'm not from Spain. I'm a Catalan, from Catalonia's capital city, Barcelona. I hope that you'll enjoy your trip to Nerja, where I've never been, nor I plan to go. Too hot and too Spanish, for me! When I go on holidays, I prefer to head North. Three years ago I went to Switzerland and this year I might go to Slovenia. |
