Good Morning,

I'm using the Scott Catalog for identification and I don't have a clear picture of what the differences are.

The reason I'm asking is there is a 1916 redrawn 10c carmine at $42.50.

"In the redrawn stamps the lions have a heavy, colored outline. There is a thick vertical line at the outer edge of the design on each side."

Thanks

Here is an image I've posted in the past...

Take a look at two things, in particular...the thick line around the lion (I've highlighted the area behind the lion's head, which is quite obvious, to my eyes), and the thick inside frame line running all the way down the left side of the design. The horizontal lines end in a thick vertical line.

(The same features appear on the right side of the stamp.)

There was another topic in the recent past that had good images, but it didn't pop up in my first couple attempts at a search. If you try a few different search words, you might find it. here:

Here are some side by side images of some postage dues. Please let me know if I have this correct. I think the dark green stamp at the lower left is redrawn (Scott J14).

I think the 10 cent issue is more difficult because the color seems to make the lines look thicker.

I believe none of these are redrawn because I can see where the white horizontal lines in the background meet the white spaces in the lion's picture on the left side of the stamp.
The vertical line on the left side of the lower block containing "TE BETALEN" seems to be very pronounced in the redrawn issue. This is not the case in these stamps.

That is really a great help - "Danko"'s examples show every detail imo.

If I were you Kelump, I would scan each stamp individually at 600 dpi so we can have a closer look.

Sure, I can scan separately. I had the stamps together to compare with ones that I knew were not redrawn.

Scott J14....with a note not to use yellow as a background color again.

Scott J5

Some of the lines look thicker, but not as pronounced as the descriptions imply.

Scott J5, I tried to convince myself this was redrawn, but the white horizontal lines clearly touch the white in the lion design.
Interesting that the letters "PL." are missing in the upper left area.

These two I have noted to learn more about how the postmarks "arrive and depart" were used.

Hi everyone. This is an interesting topic. At present, I am dismantling my Belgian collection and, to be honest, find some of these stamps difficult. I also find it frustrating too in the fact that while both the Scott and COB catalogues refers to these stamps they do not show a proper image to let users know exactly what they are describing.

As far as I know I am not alone in this <G>.
