Is this a Scott 491 or 492 or something totally different? Came from my father's collection and he had it in as a 491.
Thanks for the help
Paul

491 and 492 are the same design. The differences are in the details and as wheelman said, a higher resolution is needed to see the details.

could be type II or type III, and could be with or without watermark.
check it for a watermark and make a high resolution scan, that would probably help.

Sorry for the delayed response on this. There is no watermark. Hopefully this scan will give what you need to help. Thanks for all the assistance.

Stamp is type III either 492 or 455. It is more likely an unwatermarked 492, but the watermarks are sometimes hard to see. The clipped perforations are from an affixing machine. The stamp is scuffed in the bottom margin suggesting that it went through the mail.

Thanks for the help. I looked pretty closely and did not find a WM so I am going ahead with a 492. Also it is hinged but still has glue on the back. Grading it as fine due to the clipped perfs and scuff. Thanks again.
