A pretty awesome set of the Polar Flights. Michel #'s 456-58. The 4M is the best and valued at 900 euros or thereabouts. Michel does list the possibility of fake cancels on these. I guess the only thing that would concern me about the cancel is the orientation of the strike, all being identical in their rotation. But I'm no expert here. How much did you pay for it, BTW. Floortrader is correct. The stamps are fake. All of the German zeppelin stamps issued from 1928 to 1933 were comb perforated. Therefore, the corner perforations should be uniform.
If you look at the corners of the stamps on this cover, it is clear that these forgeries were line perforated. |

Definitely fakes. Per the thread given by perf12, compare genuine and fake. The easy "tell" is that the usual "good" fakes/nachdrucke do not show Newfoundland. The card should also show the cachet for the flight plus (probably) other postal markings.
Is there anything on the back? |
