why should it be considered worse?
some people collect them, some don't care about them. It's a nice cover in my opinion.

No clue why it would be worse. I'm still learning and the second I think I know something I find 600 reason why I was wrong. I've learned to never assume anything when it comes to stamps.

I don't not collect air mail but I have quite a few for some reason.

I think the only time it could be considered "worse" is if you are looking for a legitimate, non-philatelic use of the stamp. Keeping the plate number on can be an indication of something being contrived. The example here is obviously philatelic, so I think it adds to it.

I can't see a reason why the number would bring the value down?
