This particular cover was identified by Leonard Hartmann on the Frajola board as a Peter Winter forgery.

Sold for $788.32

Is that reasonable for a Peter Winter forgery or puffery?

It's maybe more like delusion; the price isn't merited any which way. If it were maybe a Sperati, it could deserve such a price (he didn't do covers) and that would be because the forgery would be closer to perfection. The postmarks and addressing/handwriting are very well done here but aren't perfect (Sperati cancels were not always that good, either). Do they glow under UV like a Halloween toy from the use of modern ink? Still, the phony stamp kills any doubts.

The buyers might assume a bad certificate will be accepted in the case of being a forgery and that the seller will pay for it? Good luck with that. Won by a true bottom-feeder as well, who does not deserve sympathy in my opinion.

Thanks to perf12 for the Siegel auction sale pages. Both stamps on the cover have tiny repairs as noted -- is there even a sound Missionary in existence?
