Here's another example of two "identical" stamps that look totally different. Stamp in question is the R18C, both on CDV's. The difference with the naked eye is striking. Hopefully it shows up in the scans.
Hope I'm not nuking this, if I am please tell me. But I'm certainly appreciative of any assistance and knowledge you can offer!

They look different because ink is abrasive. The stamp on the right was printed from a very worn and well used plate while the other was printed on plate that was somewhat newer with much less wear.
