Boy what a nice 1847 cover.

Tom Alexander's census shows 7 covers from this town, including this one - so I'm assuming two more have been found since the census was published?

For anyone that does not already know, the USPCS has updated the Alexander census and put it online here https://www.uspcs.org/resource-cent...over-census/
The database is fully searchable. If you click on "advanced search" you can search on origin city, origin state, destination city, destination state, addressee, franking, date range, etc.
There are 7 covers in the census from Doakesville, Indian Territory, and 9 covers addressed to Ms. Lear in New Orleans (obviously not all from Doakesville).

I use the society website for numerous things, but it hadn't registered with me that Tom's stuff was there. Good to know, thanks.

Asked my friend about the seven versus nine reported. He knows of two more, but has not been able to get scans. I personally viewed one new find. It was just a cover front and looked like a spaghetti strainer when you held it up to the light. The acidic ink really got to that one, rough to say the least. So I guess the right statement might be something like 7 reported, 2 additional suspected.

And while this is getting off topic and into single issue/FDC collecting, as my username hints, I also specialize in the 1957 Oklahoma Semi Centennial issue:

I don't know if I could be considered an Oklahoma postal history collector or not. I bought from a seller on ebay a post card that was addressed to my great grandfather's cousin in 1909 it was mailed through the Heman, Oklahoma post office.
