I have seen many lots like this

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UV-Black...273031114475

And am wondering if they would be any use in checking modern US and Canadian stamps for tagging. Has any one used one

You need to know whether it is longwave or shortwave UV. Just a guess: The unprotected bulb suggests to me that it is probably longwave (safer for the eyes), which might help for some purposes such as detecting paper repairs, but would not work well for US tagging which requires shortwave UV.

That answer is correct. Tagging needs to be checked with a much stronger light, especially if you try to find varieties. For the much wanted "tagging missing" or "untagged" varieties ideally a 10 watt or stronger unit is needed.

I expected that they would not be any use but thought I would ask. Thank you for the answers
