This November 1, 1979 stamp (Facit # 583) of Iceland commemorates the 800th anniversary of the birth of Snorri Sturluson. A parchment page from Sturluson's Heimskringla is depicted. From wikipedia, " Heimskringla is the best known of the old Norse kings' sagas. It was written in Old Norse in Iceland by the poet and historian Snorri Sturluson (1179 - 1241) around 1230."  |
