This is an interesting stamp, in that the value is noted in Dinar, but the monetary unit system was changed to Rial about 200 years ago, according to an Iranian native.

Anybody have an explanation?

Yes, you've been misinformed. In this period (from 1932), 100 Dinars = 1 Rial, 20 Rials = 1 Pahlavi.

OK Thanks!
Makes sense.
I'll go with that explanation.

One other note: I was told that the writing on the stamp was in Farsi and meant: "poste Iran", meaning Iranian postal stamp.

Hmmmm!

PS: It now appears to me that the "native Iranian" may have been correct, according to Wikipedia.
