I would like to know how to spot the difference between my Scott 2523 and 2523A. One is intaglio printing, the other gravure printing. they are not obvious.
I read the process on a separate post and was very informative, but now in application, I can't see it.

Actually, it is easy. Here are examples of both stamps.

The first is Scott 2523. Note that it is very clear on the images of Mount Rushmore and that there is a white border around the denomination:

Next is 2523A. This has a much darker, more muddled appearance in Mount Rushmore and also has no white outline of the denomination.

Any questions?

Weiss once offered a 2523A as a 2523c
