Anti-US Stamp Printed On US Made Press

Here is an anti-U.S. stamp that was printed on a U.S. Stickney rotary press by North Korea as Scott # 719.



There is an interesting story of how North Korea got this U.S. printing press to print some of its stamps.

In 1925 Czechoslovakia got a Stickey press and in 1930 they got another Stickney press. The Czechoslovak stamps printed by the Stickney press were all recess line engraved and had either line perforation 10 or 12.5 gauges from 1925 to 1959. Since Czechoslovakia went through several different interesting historical periods, this press was also used to print some stamps from the Nazi German occupation of Bohemia and Moravia from 1939 to 1945. Since Czechoslovakia stopped using this press in 1960, it send a press to North Korea in 1961 which was used to print some of its stamps from 1962 to 1966 for its line engraved stamps with line perforation 12.5 gauge.

After Czechoslovakia stopped using the Stickney press, one of their presses was sent to North Korea in 1961 from the Pravda Printing Works, Bratislava, Czechoslovakia to the Government Printing Works, Pyongyang, North Korea where it was used to print the following stamps perforated gauge 12 1/2 horizontally by 12 1/2 vertically from 1962 through 1966 by North Korea Scott/Michel catalogue numbers:
