Good Afternoon,

I have a U.S. 1893 10c S.C. #237 with a double transfer at bottom... Is the catalog value for this stamp really $13.50? It's just hard for me to believe it's that low... but I'm new to collecting. Yes, this stamp has seen better days ;)

I do not see a double transfer, probably due to the small picture. But I did notice that someone scissored the perfs off the bottom

The value is low because it was a common stamp for the era with 16.5 million printed. It saw widespread use to pay the combined first-class rate and registered mail rate, which is why yours has a New York registry cancel. You can buy these at retail for $1-$5.

The only double transfers I have seen on this stamp is at the top in the "postage ten cents" area. I do not see one here.

Here is a better image of the double transfer, you can see a faint line above and below "Presenting Natives". There is also evidence within the lettering and right hand scroll.

What do you think - if this is the only one with this double transfer - is it $13.50?
