Separating Sheets Of Stamps

Hello all-
I'm curious (as a fairly new stamp collector) the opinions of separating sheets of stamps. I collect pre-1940 US stamps but sometimes get bored and will then turn my attention to modern US stamps. How does everyone feel about buying a sheet of say "State Birds and Flowers" Scott #1953-2002 and then tearing them apart to add to your album?
I'm so anal rentitive about my albums being nice, neat and clean that I want (and usually do) tear apart the sheets into single stamps.
Any one against this? Does it really matter or as a whole you should keep sheets together? Just curious on other collectors habits. I know that modern stamps are not really investments, per se.

Some will tell you to just do whatever you want to do.

And others can correct me if I am wrong (since I don't collect these) but I believe that in commercial albums they are expected to be mounted individually.

Personally, I would not think twice about breaking up a modern sheet of stamps like State Birds and Flowers that you can find on ebay for below face value.
Once thing to consider is that displaying a full sheet increases the dimensions of your album page.

I have a hard time bringing myself to breaking up sheets. 99% of the time, I try to adhere to "do no harm"...something I was instilled with some time ago by other collectors. My U.S. album is mostly populated with mint/unused stamps, but for sheets like the one in question, I'll keep a sheet intact somewhere and fill the album with used singles, if the album is set up for singles. If the sheet fits in the album, I'll slide it in a protective sleeve and add it to the album. Otherwise, I have a separate place to keep them safe.

Display them as you like, it is your collection.

The thing with full sheets (or partial sheets) is that you can see the Plate number. On some issues, some plate #s may have a higher catalog value than others. I might want to check that just to know what I have before I separate anything.
