R189 is a fairly expensive stamp, listing at $575 used and $140 with a cut cancel in the current Scott catalogue. As the values imply, the majority found have cut cancels. In fact, in my experience, mint/unused examples are more common than uncut used examples that have nice aesthetics.

I just acquired this one, uncut, with an interesting violet wave cancel, featuring the front half of the word "CANCELED" (or "CANCEL"). Very few examples of R189 are still on document, so attributing the cancel will be extremely difficult.

The right side must have been underneath of another stamp when cancelled?

That is my assumption.

Nice get. Also considering the majority of this series are poorly centered, this one is very nice.
