The items depicted by "Redwoodrandy" above are indeed De La Rue. My notes about them state....
"Worded 'STATE OF N. AFRICA', these dummy stamps have been described as a 'pattern stamp' used to develop colour schemes for British Central Africa (BCA) [Nyasaland] and Zanzibar stamps." Understood to date from the 1890s era.

The "redbus" item is totally new to me and I am surprised to see an item that has escaped me for so many years. Nice! I can only assume that the purpose behind their creation was similar. GLENN
