R13B - Real Or Trimmed?

This ebay auction ended a few days ago.



This R13b (if real) is an outstanding appearing specimen. I seriously considered bidding on it. However something held me back. I thought the stamp looked more like a late printing rather than an early one. However I am no expert when it comes to paper and impression.

I only bid if I am reasonably sure, especially with this seller.

I know many of you don't like this seller, but I have bought several nice items off of them over the years. You just have to be careful. I don't want this post to evolve into a review of the seller. Just of the stamp.

So what do you think? Real or trimmed?

It will be interesting to see what the experts say about this NYStamps offering.

As one who has been burned in the past, I definitely am no expert. However, the thing that would cause me pause is the different size holes. Not a trimmed copy, but possibly an imperf with perfs added?

Why take a 1200$ stamp and turn it into 350$ stamp?? That would have been a stellar 4 margin imperf. The angle may be the way photo was taken. My vote is a bottom margin stamp with top trimmed. I am no expert either, been burned too.

If some one re-perfed this stamp..They did a pretty good job of lining them up.

This seller has been using angled photos which make it hard to try to digitally analyze the perfs.

What's the odds of that happening on a genuine example?




Who knows? Some things are inexplicable.

I'd be skeptical given the shape of the perfs on the left side in the first picture. There's at least one saw tooth and what appears to be a square perf. To me it looks as though it's been tampered with. Upon close inspection, I'd step back.

It is a late printing perforated stamp with large margins and the perforations have been trimmed off the top and bottom in an attempt to make a part-perf stamp. A genuine part-perf or imperf stamp will never be in this shade of blue.
