Jack - the 22-ring mechanism has means that the pages turn easier and there's less pressure on the individual rings. Most of the better European albums have between eight and twenty-two rings.

Cheap and easy is one way to go. You can always build from there. The idea is to have fun. Sometimes, I feel like I am in a race (to complete and move on). I decided to collect country by country because there was a thread on this site a while back which opined that resale would be easier if selling by country. Second best was by set. Third and last was incomplete sets. So I took it from there.

Hello "crazed"
Out of curiosity, in what part of the Country do you live?
Just some random thoughts - the advice you received about the cost of Victorian era stamps is very real - even to get a respectable collection of Canada and the Provinces is going to cost plenty and almost impossible to complete if that is your goal. George V is also expensive, but you can have a lot of fun with that period with all the varieties that exist. With Canada, for example, the Admiral issue has lots of varieties - I've been working on this issue for the past few months and have just obtained most of the basic Unitrade varieties - still many to go. As others have said, George VI is a wonderful collecting area and most of the stamps are still affordable and most can be found on ebay and other sites.

As far as albums go, my own preference is for Vario 7 pocket pages. If I'm able to acquire complete sets, I mount them using Lighthouse mounts on quadrilled paper interleaving them with the Vario sheets in Lighthouse binders. This is a simple system; but not an inexpensive one as the binders, mounts and pages do cost some money. But they look good to me and I've tried a bunch of alternatives with results that made me less than happy.
Have fun!

Stamp Auction Network lists auctions from many firms, US, Canadian, and foreign. Look them over and see which ones deal in the type of material you want, then register to bid in their actions at the site. Many live auctions are also presented, there. Since I found them a few years ago, I have never bid on ebay's stamp auction lots.
