There seems to be more and more sellers on ebay that know absolutely nothing about stamps.

Also ebay is being flooded again by sellers padding their shipping costs to avoid fees. 99 cent stamp with $9.95 for domestic shipping???

Sellers pay the same commission on shipping fees that they pay on sale price.

True!

But mailing costs like the example here put the most part of the sale as a tax deduction being mailing cost. It also allows the extra mailing stamps from the over inflated mailing cost to become saleable items.

Huh? Things must be different in Australia than they are here with respect to tax deductions. Here, it doesn't matter what a seller CHARGES for shipping; what's deductible is what the seller actually PAID for the shipping.

So for example, if a seller pays $5 to ship an item, it doesn't matter whether they list the item as $50 + $5 shipping or $5 + $50 shipping, it doesn't alter what was actually paid, and therefore deductible.

So I have a receipt stating I have purchased so many mailing stamps from PO at a certain cost.

Then I have an ebay receipt stating the mailing cost was so much being an over inflated cost.

Equeals tax fraud but are they getting away with it? Think about it!

You might also wonder if they file for taxes at all.
Small ebay sellers would not be noticed and may just not bother to mention Their sale to the taxman at all.

Yep! If at all.

With my 2 Australia ebay stores here both are forwarded to the tax man each year. As they both earn over the reportable amount.

About two years ago it was $20,000 before the ebay info was passed over. The tax man got heaps of sellers with the lower income reporting figure.

This takes place for me even though both are registered businesses.

Since the 1st of July this year buyers on ebay Australia now pay 10% on all outside Australia purchases. This figure is added by ebay on all invoices concerned.

I wonder if all these ebay changes are the same as an Australian with a US ebay store or from another country?

I can confirm that, if the 10% GST was charged to an Australian buyer for an overseas purchase, it is also refunded (as a separate amount) in the event of a dispute resulting in a refund to the buyer.

In the past few months I've seen a definite uptick in clueless sellers n the tamps section. Stuff like a stamp album being called a 'stamp book', perforations called 'holes' that sort of thing.

I honestly think if I was trying to sell something in an area I knew nothing about I'd at least try to read up a bit on it so I wouldn't embarrass myself. To each his own..

"Antique vintage stamp book, several stamps both marked and unmarked, attached to pages with bits of cellophane. Great for the hobbyist!"
