Don't worry, we are more patient and forgiving in case you make a mistake, after all, last time I checked we were all human. Unless they allow bots to sign up.....

We promise not to belittle you or make you uncomfortable, there are a lot of ex-Stampboarders around here! Have you been collecting long? I am nearing my 50th year of world-wide stamp collecting (I'm presently 59 y.o.) and can't believe I've had this hobby for nearly my entire life!!!

Hi Jim,thanks for the welcome.Some immediate similarities,same age,same collecting interest.I only started in my early thirties but seem to have accumulated many kilos of items at auctions I havnt sorted yet.
Already seems a place to feel at home,rather than being lectured and insulted by the owner.
Hope to have many enlightening conversations in the future.

"Many kilos of items from auctions", sounds familiar!

I was talking just yesterday with a stamp friend who has been collecting also for many decades. The subject of duplicates came up, as it often does. My friend C.R. has organized his into "red boxes" which hold about a thousand small "102" cards. We both had tables at our local stamp fair two weeks ago. I thought I had a lot of material; but C.R. had at least eighty (80) boxes of neatly filed and sorted duplicates organized alphabetically and even catalogued! He said he only brought a part of what he had..... around 80,000 cards, many with multiple stamps in them.

I also happen to use the same 102-card system, for many of my duplicates. This is what a box looks like ( I have several dozen filled boxes):



To get as organized as my friend C.R.I still have a lot of work to do (and Rob you sound like you do too!) A never-ending work in progress, I like to call it. Relaxing, yes, MOST of the time!!!

As far as the starship/goat analogy, it's not as much about the means, but the voyage itself! Stamp-collecting takes you wherever you want to go. Tonight I am looking into my Iranian stamps, not looked at in years.

Who knows what I may find........

Oh yes definately fun, I really enjoy the whole thing from buying at auction to cataloging and then adding to my collection.I also enjoy selling off the items I dont need,but I dont think I have enough years to complete it all,as I will definately be buying more.
