The sale is tomorrow night (starts at 6:30PM Eastern). If local to NYC, stampcrow can call tomorrow morning to find out if he has a seat and make it there in time. |

So....it's the moment of truth. I will be both watching and "playing" with VERY tempered expectations. Personally, I think this Gross material will "go through the roof", but I'm still certain last night was a sleepless one for Scott Trepel. |

I don't know why it should be. He has a lot of experience with big sales, and the material should sell itself. Plus he has the advantage of knowing all the advance bids. |

The advance bids are not even going to begin to cover the target number I have heard thrown around. You will see tonight where the bidding comes from, and I can almost guarantee you, it won't be "the book". This holds especially true for the ultra-rarities which should see all of their action during live bidding. Basically, Scott is looking for the next Bill Gross, and with the most marketable part of Gross's collection yet to come, he has plenty to be concerned about tonight. This is a philatelic sale that is getting a lot of mainstream press coverage, so I hope that the prices for all concerned, are VERY aggressive. |

Whilst one rich man paying over the odds for some toys from another rich man's cupboard is of no consequence to me, I'm not clear why aggressive bidding is of any benefit to anyone but Gross, his chosen charity and Siegel and whoever happens to own other copies of expensive stamps. |

I haven't seen much evidence of "through the roof so far. Most items have been going for somewhere at or near the estimates. |

yeah, the estimates have been pretty good - only one pass I think - a few well over the estimate but generally close - which is not shabby |
