Classic American Aircraft
Matted Pane - Signed

Do you know who signed it?

My research leads me to two likely candidates: Phil Jordan and William Phillips.

From (https://arago.si.edu/category_2044392.html)
Quote:
The pane was designed by Phil Jordan of Falls Church, Virginia, and illustrated by William Phillips

I found an example of William Phillips signature (http://www.brooksart.com/Afternoonmail.html), and it is very different from the picture.

This narrows my search to just Phil Jordan. Can you agree or confirm?

Thank you

I hope it would be Jordan, but does it have to be signed by an artist? a pilot (test or military, perhaps) could be a possibility as would a USPS dignitary.

Phil Jordan has been the Art Director of the USPS for 37 years (https://www.usps.com/stamps/bios/phil-jordan.htm). Surely someone has a copy of his signature.

I suppose then you can send him a copy of the signature by email and ask for confirmation.

With less imagination, I can see a "W---- ? Ph----" seeing crude intitials with squiggle lines for the other letters and a middle initial indicated by the ?. I would try to locate a signed ceremony program since it was likely that whoever signed it was at the first day ceremony.

Well, after google searching for Phillips autograph I came up with this:

I would say that's pretty close to your autograph and would think it's the same person - William Phillips.

Thanks all. Your responses are helpful.

I was looking the William Phillips signature on this painting. He must sign it two different ways, fast and slow.

I will probably send an email to confirm.
