I just started collecting and one area that I am interested in is stamps that honor Captain Cook. Does anybody know if an index has ever been created?

There are two places I can think of which might be of help to you.

The American Philatelic Society may have a listing of the stamps with Captain Cook, but this would be my second choice to look for it.

The best choice would be the website of the American Topical Association. You can find them at: http://www.americantopicalassn.org/home.shtml

The ATA apparently lists 311 Captain Cook issues.

You might also find this site of interest, although the lists are a bit out of date. There are a few new Cook stamps coming out at the moment.

Have you seen the current edition of the UK mag, Stamp and Coin Mart? There's a feature on the new Great Britain set, Captain Cook and the Endeavour Voyage, and also a section called "Ten stamps on Captain Cook", detailing some previous issues from around the world.
