Advice: Always Check Through Bulk Postage

Yesterday I bought a bunch of postage from the local stamp shop. He's got a huge box that he sells at 60% of face. I go in once a month or so and buy all the self-adhesive sheets and booklets, since lick-and-stick postage doesn't work well on poly mailers... in fact they are horrifically bad unless you want to ignore the gum and just use a glue stick instead, which is a PITA.

So I bought about $200 face, not really paying attention, just looking at self-adhesive vs. non as the only criteria. I got the pile home only to discover a Scott 3138 (32-cent Bugs Bunny pane with imperf single and die cuts all the way through the sheet) in the bunch. Catalogs $140. Not shabby.

Always check what you get. Even modern stuff can conceal surprises.

Great find. I have so little use of bulk postage (what with auto payments, etc.), but now I may look closer.

Nice find revenue collector. Now you just got your postage for about 40% of face. There is a lesson to be learned from this though. One mans trash is another mans treasure. Check your trash before getting rid of it. You would be surprised what may fall into it.

When I was a bit younger my cousin and I kept in touch frequently writing each other. I bought the Bugs Bunny pane and I remember thinking "oh cool they put a sticker on the stamp sheet." I used that "sticker" on who knows what (I think I put it on this box I kept all my stationary in). It wasn't until later when I got into stamp collecting I realized my error! The Bugs Bunny stamp will always be one of my favorites for this reason.
