I am a long time (55-years) collector of worldwide stamps up to 1940, and a few countries past that date. I also collect the first stamp issue from each country. I joined this forum yesterday and have asked for help in solving 3 stamp mysteries. I got a number of insightful and thoughtful responses from your very knowledgeable members. In answer to your questions about how I collect: I am a cross between a "completist" and a "Big Blue" collector. When I was a teen, I graduated from an old Minkus album to Big Blue with the albums for 1840 to 1950. Any stamps that came to me past 1950 went onto blank Scott pages in a separate Big Blue binder. I mainly pursued the pre-1940 stamps (and still do), but later stamps still found their way to me.
As parts of Big Blue filled up, I started getting Scott specialty albums where I needed more room for the stamps. My first ones were: USA and Germany, bought about 1968. I now have 36 Scott specialty albums (most bought used). The balance of my collection is in Big Blue albums. 1840 -1940 is in 3 albums, 1940-1950 is in one album, 1950-present is divided into 3 albums on blank Scott pages. I have a separate loose-leaf notebook for Cinderellas & revenues.
I collect both mint and used stamps, or one copy of each if they both come to me. It all takes up a lot of space!
