Hello everyone;
So if you bear with me I know very little about cfa stamps. Except I was curious about this stamp I picked up.
I looked at other fakes and for some reason they look different than this one.
It most likely a fake because of the color of a authentic , shouldn't it be black I'm guessing but not real sure of colors and the lack of detail with this 10 cent stamp is very questionable.
No detail of the the hair and around the eyes and background over inking ,it has nice checking around the face and no reflecting light on the face's cheek and forehead not like others I've seen.
I think the gum is also a question , did they have gum this one has gum?
Also this stamp looks pretty old with yellowish paper . .If you have any history of this stamp I would appreciate it ,any pictures of a authentic 10cent blue if any?
Also is this stamp worth anything?
Thanks Dan

Okay, back up. There is no genuine 10c stamp like this. The printing plates were ordered and stored away but never used by the Confederate government. Someone came along later and used them to print up proofs (which are the black prints you probably are referring to) and stamps, but these are all private productions, without a trace of official anything.

The never-used 10c plate is just the 5c plate altered with "TEN". You noted differences, and indeed this is a fake (of a fake) with the heavy and probably wrong shading across the face being readily apparent. So you were correct in doubting it.

See:

"Looks pretty old" -- that's bad storage, not the best indicator of age. Also 1968 is pretty old to a lot a people, and this fake of a fake probably is older than that.

This was the mystery to me, if they indeed printed and they got out to the public .
The picture I saw of the black stamps made me think someone did that and printed a few for what ever reason knowing they were never legal for mail but for collectors or something like that.
It was interesting they did get these plates back but didn't print any as your article said.
Thank you for your reply this was very interesting.

I had read a story somewhere that Mrs. J. Davis disliked this portrait of her husband because it looked too much like that guy living in the White House up north. True? Who knows. The two did look kinda similar, and I believe there were actually rumours, tittle tattle really, that the two men were related. Anything to undermine the man in charge!

I heard that too, I think he looks like he could be his brother or related that is such a weird coincidence .
What are the odds two leaders like this looked so much alike. Life is stranger than fiction.
