It does not seem to be a 634A.

Very poor scan. It might be, but this scan certainly does not prove it one.

Second one doesn't appear to be an 'A', but very good chance it's a 'b'

I'd send for a cert...

Outside of the perf count, I would say it is a Type I.

Based on weakness of the design lines

The stamp pictured by the OP is a 634. It lacks type II characteristics and color is probably from a post 1930 printing.

Re: Babcock's second stamp. The line above the scroll below the "U" of United is thick enough to be a type II and the hair lines are heavy enough. A larger scan, at least 600 DPI, would be needed to confirm. The color is in the correct range to be a 634A. It is not even close to the carmine lake of a 634b. I happen to have a certified reference and the discovery copy. A few years ago, one of the expertizing committees used high intensity long wave UV to identify carmine lake. Results were mixed.

It would be helpful when posting an opinion to include some supporting remarks.

I agree the with cfrphoto, the 2nd appears to be a type II in which case the color is a moot issue. If it were a type I it would be worth doing as disi123 suggested.

It's a little confusing but I think RB posted the second pic for use as a comparison to the cover item. He does say it's a certified copy.
