One sees box lots of commercial bank covers at auction from time-to-time; they are probably most often purchase by dealers, who pull anything worth selling one-by-one and dump the rest into bargain boxes, where the covers might fetch anywhere from a quarter to a dollar.

But that dealer is working for that money; shlepping the boxes to a show, renting a table, spending the day entertaining the browsers, etc.

And ebay would require that you scan each item, describe it, and ship it to someone ... who can them complain that you misdescribed the item. Unless you have exceptional material, would that activity be worthwhile for you?

How about scanning & posting a few of the covers here, along with a count of just how many you've got?

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey

Yes, if you could pick out a couple and show them to us we could give you an idea, but you should not get your hopes up very much. Most commercial mail sent within the past 50 years or more has little to no commercial value, unless there is something very unusual about it.

Thanks for the help. I think they are too modern so I will just sell them for someone who is begining to collect to soak off.

Tell the newbies that GPU (Genuinely Postally Used) African stamps on cover might be a cool niche some day.

The thing that's good about bank lots is that they correspond with banks in countries from which we do not see a lot of mail.

Good morning,

Please show any envelopes marked as registered mail especially ones with more than the usual amount of postage. Bank covers are a great resource for registered covers with a high amount of indemnity coverage. Look at the Registered U.S.A. project http://www.stampsmarter.com/feature...RegHome.html for examples and info on registered mail. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Above all else, enjoy the hobby!

Best regards, Russ Ryle
