Hello Again;
I have this this Washington Scott 26 16 and I was wondering about this stamp it is a little beat maybe not worth much but the border vertical line I was curious about .
Is this just something that is normal or something else anyone have a idea maybe a name for it.Maybe just the end of a plate or something.
Thanks
curious Dan

Thanks for the info ,I read the pages on goscf.com and its say the straddle in this stamp is common .That this stamp was with no perfs, mines was with perfs .I wonder if that matters it sounds like its on both type of stamps which doesn't make a lot of sense just for the fact you wouldn't need it with perfs "if" it was used just to have a guide line ?
Also it sounds like some people like this type of stamp and will pay more for it ,but I don't see it in the Scott's catalog.
Thanks again
Dan

Dan, like many of the classic stamps of this era there were many common stamps and due to the printing methods there are some very scarce colors, re-cuts, and varieties that if found the right piece can yield good money. This is why specialists have studied this design so deeply and others like it. The 1851 - 1861 Franklin 1¢, the 1855 - 1857 10¢ Washington among others. Like the imperforate stamps of the same design there are common (11 & 11A) and there are ones not so common (10, type I, and 10A, type II).
