Took a break from working on my stamps and wanted to read the discussions here .
Guess who pops up in somebody's link, a free advertising right across the scan that the person is asking about, saying "Proudly hosted by Photobucket",unbelieveable.
I have to be open about my hatered of PHOTOBUCKET and the stuff they pulled on the STAMP COMMUNITY both here and other places . I lost hundreds of scans of stamps and family photos due to their holding me for RANSOM and destroying a lot of my postings on the internet .
First question, I have are they getting free advertising here ? Second question are they planing to destroy links and pictures again as they did in the past ?
Has anyone else had a bad experience with them ?

You lost the actual content? I have nothing good to say about them, but I can still access my images, and I haven't paid them anything. In theory, I have the files for everything that is there, though they could be scattered here and there. Now you have me wondering... |

I just saw in a different thread about an albanian document which had pictures showing the picture with the photobucket logo on it.
I don't have any pictures that have gone through photobucket but is this caused because pictures were inserted in the thread from the photobucket website? |

SCF disallowed ALL Photobucket images in new posts well over a year ago (07/01/2017). The thread in question had Photobucket images from 2011.
The recent change is coming from Photobucket, not SCF. Photobucket originally removed images and replaced them with this But Photobucket has now changed that policy and is now watermarking the original images as opposed to simply replacing them with the image shown above. They have retroactively applied this to all the old images that they hosted so old threads that previously had the image above being displayed now are showing the original image with their branding. SCF prefers that images are uploaded here so that the images are archived permanently and not subject to being held hostage to another companies change in policies. That said, we are not going to go back and remove every image that anyone used since the beginning of the forum. Not only would this ruin countless threads, but it would suck a huge amount of time. We do have a special thread set up that allows the original poster to replace the original Photbucket images. Don |

Upsets me to see that word again. Had forgotten all about it.
Would of thought they would of been forced to fix the blackmail type approach to our photo/image history being stolen from us all. |

Lesson #1 - There is no free lunch. Lesson #2 - Read and understand the Term's and Condition of any website before committing to use it.
I deplore what they did, but they had every right to and in some ways we should have seen it coming. Don |

alot of things start out free but eventually, when enough use it and become dependent on it, you get a bill.

Hi Sorsh, True enough. But I do not go to a local store for a loaf of bread and expect it to be free, even if they are giving it away for a while to get me to become a loyal customer. I know that they are in business, I know that they have to have income to stay in business, I know that tomorrow they may raise prices or change their policies.
Photobucket's lack of a 'heads-up' or notification on the change was inexcusable and may go down in business history as a legendary mistake. But their terms and conditions were always clear. Many of us have beat the drum about online services that appear 'free', I hope that this situation will succeed in getting folks to understand that online companies are no different than any other company. Facebook is not 'free', Google is not 'free', YouTube is not 'free'.
Many folks here have promoted and linked StampWorld as 'free' but some of us keep telling people that it is not really free. SANS is another example. These companies have business plans that include first building online traffic and generating income later. I would even go so far as saying it is fairly common for online companies to have this kind of business plan. Don |

Photobucket has backed off their stance and is somewhat back to what it used to be. I don't use it here but I do use it elsewhere and there are not watermarks advertising their site. All of my scans are still there and I've lost none. Many companies make decisions that don't turn out well (Netflix a few years back) but sometimes they see the light. Photobucket's heartburn was from people using their hosting service to sell things for profit and not giving them a piece of the action. IMGUR now is having the same issue with people using their service to sell things. |

I paid the yearly fee of $39 to add more storage, that is all. None of the images I have posted elsewhere have the watermark. And I did check my credit card and no charges from photobucket since I paid the $39 1˝ years ago. |
