I have a few examples from the Singapore 1980 Ships issue with various phosphor tagging configurations. Some examples are untagged, others are overall tagged, and one is center band tagged. I'm looking for information regarding the tagging configurations for each denomination in the series. I'd like to create a custom album page(s) for the series that is coherent. Is there an excerpt from a specialized catalog listing that someone can share? Thanks, Robert

I know this set (Michel#342/50) and I hope my informations are correct. All eight values from 5c to 75c exist both untagged and overall tagged. The 1c value exists only untagged. The 10c value exists too with two different bands of phosphor (4mm wide and 10mm wide) |

Excellent. That helps tremendously. I can put together a couple of custom pages with this information.
Thank you.

This has been an educational thread. I checked my spares and I have a some of these. Scott makes no mention of them.
I definitely have a sample of the 10c 4mm band and one or two with 10mm band. It looks both of 10mm band ones had the some phosphor migration since I see that "yellow" in spots. I can see the bands under both SW and LW and the fluorescence is strong under both lights.
Rod, Thanks for the reminder on the Std catalog. I have the 30th edition but did not check to see if it had additional varieties than Scott or Steiner. |

Here are images of my samples of the 15c in both maps. LW SW The wide band seem to be on fluoroescent paper. |

Here is a better image. I was getting too much ambient light into the pic. |

Thanks for the catalog excerpt, rod222. Clears things up nicely.
However, I'm having trouble deciphering the difference between the 1c Hainan junk issues, 368 and 368a. Do the check marks mean you have the stamps in your collection? If so, can you describe the differences in the 1c varieties?

I believe that Mr. Tan or his editor made an error on the 1c stamp. In an earlier edition of his catalog, the 368a is described as "Glazed paper" rather than "Ordinary paper" as Rod's catalog shows. |

OK, so the difference may be related to surface coating, rather than fluorescent/phosphorescent properties. I was wondering if that was the case. |

Yes, I believe this is the case, but I cannot prove it because I do not have such a stamp. An earlier definitive set (1968 "Dancers") was printed with gum varieties and glazed paper varieties as mentioned/listed by Stanley Gibbons.
So, my thinking here is that some of these low value "make up" rate stamp were printed on old paper stock (glazed) rather than newer fluorescent paper, because there really wasn't a great need for them, as the printing quantity shows. |

Quote: Do the check marks mean you have the stamps in your collection? Robert, no, I buy most of my catalogues second hand, often marked as thus. We shall take Bob's advice re the paper. On a second reading, I take it that 1980 it was printed on Phosphorised paper, then in 1981 on ordinary paper (meaning unphosphorised ?) |
