Look at this cover..Cancelled 3 distinct times and the RED arrow shows the beginning of 4th cancel...Not rare, but not at all common. Robert

Looks like the postal clerk had a bit too much fun the night before, and his/her handeye coordination was suffering the next morning. |

That's not a machine cancel?
I figured that the envelope, for whatever reason, got stuck, and the 'next' envelope kept slipping in behind it.

Yes, it is a machine cancel. The cancel is rolled-on as the envelope moves past the circular canceling head. The only way to do this is to feed the envelope through the machine multiple times. |

Perhaps the postal worker thought he/she was paid by the number of passes through the machine...or, maybe it was a slow day. |
