You have got to be kidding me. Rare! They must mean it in the way of sales, rarely sold items.

The seller has dozens of other stamps for sale for $1.78 each, and one for $17,800!! I think he's prone to typos when making up the listings. Even so, NONE of the stamps with the lower prices are worth anywhere near the $1.78 much less the $15.98 shipping!!

What gets me are the numbers of people who think because a stamp is red and older and a 2c valuation (red line or no) that it is somehow valuable. Like this one, which before opening states there are '24 Watching'!

Then there is this seller with another 2c red washington for sale. And if you miss out on this buy, there are 3 more for $1,500, 3 @ $2,500, 2 @ $1,000, 1 @ $3,000 and a torn one that can be had for only $450.

Somehow, this thread brought Dutch painter Hieronymus Bosch's painting "the Conjurer" (1502) to mind.

That doesn't mean that all (or any) of those 24 want to buy it. They're most likely just like us: waiting to see if there are any suckers out there.

I have plenty of items in my watch list that I have no intention of buying. Not at the prices being asked, anyway. And if something is really unusual and desirable, I won't put it in my watch list at all, since that might arouse interest from competing bidders.

I agree that using the watch list feature is a crazy idea, unless it is to watch a possible sucker move. Using it for the intended purpose only draws attention to the few reasonable offers/finds on ebay... so that they can then be bid up unreasonably.
