I just purchased this postcard/envelope and noticed a stamp that looks just like a Scott 544 . Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you put a perforation gauge to it?

I have no background in your question. I purchased a huge lot of vintage photos and cabinet cards and found this. I will research what you just asked. Thanks!

Perforations appear wrong for 544. 544 is perf 11 while I think this is perf 10.

Steven100d ... if you have no background to know what perforation gauge is, how did you know to use the terms SCOTT and 544, specifically, in your post? What source told you to do that?

Obviously a new collector/ postcard enthusiast.

He went looking for information, found and used the scott catalogue and located the image of his stamp, and thinks it looks like a 544. He also joined this community to gain more information about his find. Now he will get a perforation gauge and learn more about this wonderful hobby and maybe become a lifelong collector.

I am sure most of us started out this way, knowing little about perfs, gum, paper, etc. Just about filling those spaces in an album or collecting postcards of what we liked. No harm in dreaming of finding the big one when you enter this hobby, we all did. And some of us found a few treasures along the way.

Enjoy Stephen.

Mike

I disagree. I believe the true answer is quite different, though I don't expect to hear it.

Back to the OP's question, I think it's perf 11, but likely offset not engraved (i.e. Scott 525).

...and I agree with the others that 319Fj (carmine rose type II) catalogs $1.75/ea. No "on cover" price is listed, but they are not scarce. 319Fi (which is fairly scarce and is valued at $50 used) is valued on cover at 3x that amount. I'd guess that a Scott 319Fj on cover would be valued at $5 or less.
